Identification | Dwarf Glasswort is an annual, short-branched, fleshy-textured plant that typically grows 4-6 inches tall; it is not mat-forming like Perennial Glasswort (S. ambigua) is. The spikes of tiny flowers, each set in a joint or node, occur at ends of slender branches. It is best told from American Glasswort (S. virginica = the former S. europaea) by its thicker, fleshier spikes, and with inflorescence scales that have a sharply pointed tips (vs. blunt and lacking a pointed tip). In late fall it retains its green color. | |
