DistributionThe full species was attributed to NC in RAB (1968), but with no records on hand. There are one or more collections in NC of a variety that is clearly not native in NC -- var. laevigatus (which see). The nominate variety albus is native in the Northeast, south in the VA Mountains to Tazewell County, only a few dozen miles north of the NC border. However, as it occurs on calcareous soils in VA, there is little suitable habitat in nearby NC.
AbundanceNote that the full species is thereby listed as SE (State Exotic), as one variety is considered with that rank. The native Northeastern variety is considered as SR (State Reported), but with no known records of any plants considered to be of a natural population in NC.
