DistributionThroughout the state, but apparently less often in the upper Piedmont and Mountains.

Native of eastern Asia; in N.A. MA to IA south to FL and TX.
AbundanceCommon (locally abundant), except uncommon to frequent in the Mountains and upper Piedmont.
HabitatRoadsides, lawn weed, campuses, garden weed, waste ground, vacant lots.
PhenologyFlowering and fruiting July-October.
IdentificationJapanese Clover is a sprawling, much-branched plant, with tiny flowers in leaf axils. Stem hairs lie along the stem retrorsely (towards base of stem) vs. antrorsely (towards tip of stem) in Korean Clover (K. stipulacea).
Taxonomic CommentsFormerly named as Lespedeza striata.
