Habitat | Brackish to fresh-tidal, shallow waters of Currituck Sound and at the mouth of the Perquimans River. This alien species can be a nuisance locally by clogging waterways and even replacing native aquatic vegetation. | |
Phenology | Flowering and fruiting August-October. | |
Identification | Eurasian Water-milfoil's leaves often look as if their ends had been cut off square with scissors. Leaves are in distinct whorls of 4, grayish green color, and with 24+ segments. Floral bracts are tiny and generally hidden by flowers and fruits. | |
Taxonomic Comments | Some specimens were originally determined as M. exalbescens, which has not been proven to occur in NC.
