DistributionKnown from 4 collections: 1997 and 2001 in Macon County; 2005 in Ashe County; and 2025 in Moore County.

Native of Eurasia; in N.A. ME to Ont. and MN south to NC, TN, IL. Also in the far West.
AbundanceVery rare.
HabitatYard weed, roadside trash dump, rich mesic forested slope (Moore Co.).
PhenologyFlowering and fruiting April-September.
IdentificationThis species is readily identified by the pale green patches on the upper leaf surfaces -- these can be a central stripe or 2 stripes flanking a dark central zone. Like others in the genus, the small flowers usually are rose to magenta or purple; but the Moore County plants had white corollas with red-purple markings on anthers and lower lip, plus red-purple streaking on tube.
