DistributionThe 4 collections seen have all been from the Brunswick County side of the Cape Fear River. First collected in the 1890s (estimated), then 1908, 1980, and 1983.

Native of Europe; in N.A. from maritime Canada and WI, south to GA and AR; also West Coast, AZ, UT.
AbundanceVery rare.
HabitatRoadside ditches, fresh-tidal river marsh.
PhenologyFlowering and fruiting June-September.
IdentificationThis mint is similar to M. arvensis but the stem leaves are larger and more ovate, and the inflorescence is terminal, with 1-3 closely-spaced rounded clusters of densely-packed lavender or pink flowers (vs. several to many well-spaced clusters in M. arvensis).
