DistributionThe sole specimen (herbarium GH and NCU) is from cultivated plants originally from AL and grown at Highlands, Macon County. J.L. Collins states so in his monograph of 1976. Therefore, this species should be deleted from the NC flora.

Native of southeastern TN, northern and central GA, and northeastern and central AL. Note that the native range is not that far southwest of NC, and thus it possibly could occur as a natural population some day. But the collection record listed above certainly does not fit that bill.
