DistributionMostly in the Coastal Plain; 2 counties in the Piedmont, and one in the Mountains. The most recent collection was in 1989 in Southport, Brunswick County.

Native of Mexico; in N.A. VT to IL and south to FL and TX; also AZ, CA, NV, UT.
AbundanceUncommon in the Coastal Plain; rare westward.
HabitatRoadsides, by a canal, riverfront, along creeks, waste area.
PhenologyFlowering and fruiting June-November.
IdentificationMarvel-of-Peru has striking red to deep rose-magenta flowers, trumpet-shaped with a long tube.
