DistributionFound in the upper Piedmont and Mountains. The most recent collection was in 1995 in Madison County.

Native of southern Canada and almost all of the U.S.
AbundanceRare in the western third of the state.
HabitatAlong railroads, weed in yard.
PhenologyFlowering and fruiting May-October.
IdentificationWild Four-o'clock lacks the long floral tube of M. jalapa, but its inflorescence bracts are red. It tends to have rose to purple flowers.
