DistributionAccording to a note in the journal Castanea for 1984 by Lytton Musselman, this species was collected on Roan Mountain in 1884. The ID by Musselman was tentative, but he eliminated O. minor.

Native of Asia; in N.A. Ont., NJ, IL, KY, NC, TX, CA.
AbundanceVery rare.
HabitatNo NC data.
PhenologyFlowering and fruiting -- no NC data.
IdentificationThis broomrape is most often branched, but it can be unbranched. It lacks chlorophyll and so is generally brown or yellowish in color. On the other hand, the flowers are lavender to violet, not yellowish as in O. minor. Thus, these flowers stand in stark contrast to the paleness, if not blandness, of the remainder of the plant!
