DistributionScattered records in the Mountains and Piedmont. A specimen from Forsyth County was from a cultivated plant.

Native of Europe; in N.A. mostly maritime Canada and northeastern U.S.

HabitatMargin of woods, cove forest on serpentine (Clay County), shady slope by creek, roadside.
PhenologyFlowering April-May.
IdentificationEuropean Columbine has blue to violet flowers. Vegetatively it is difficult to separate from our native A. canadensis.
