DistributionThe only specimen at SERNEC is from Biltmore Estate, Buncombe County, where cultivated in 1897 (herbarium CLEMS). RAB (1968) were unable to locate any specimens or citations to substantiate the occurrence in the Carolinas, and Weakley (2018) does not map it in NC. Taxon editors suggest deleting this species until a non-cultivated specimen turns up.

Native of Mediterranean Europe; in N.A. RI to NY south to NJ and OH; eastern TN; KS to TX.
