DistributionMostly Piedmont; scattered in Mountains and Coastal Plain; apparently absent from Sandhills proper.

N.S. to southern Ont. and SD, south to GA and TX.

IdentificationBoth subspecies of A. parlinii have 3-5 prominent nerves on basal leaves (contra Howell's Pussytoes). From Plantain-leaved Pussytoes, Parlin's differs in taller female florets and floral bracts (involucres), and taller male florets - see Weakley (2018) for details. In addition, the former is densely hairy on upper surfaces of leaves (vs. glabrous or hairy only when young).
Taxonomic CommentsSome authors lump this subspecies as var. ambigens within A. plantaginifolia.
