DistributionCollected in 1897 at the Biltmore Estate (Buncombe County) by L.A. Carter (several herbaria), but there is no indication that the plants were escaped or adventive. In 1953 it was collected twice on Sunset Mountain (Buncombe Co.) at the TV transmission station by Sybil and Randall Duckett.

Native of Europe; in N.A. southern Canada south to NC, MO, CO, CA.

IdentificationThis bedstraw is tall - about 2 feet - with whorls of 8 threadlike leaves. The inflorescence is very long, with ascending branches and clusters of bright yellow flowers -- looking like a goldenrod at a distance. Nearly all of the others in the genus have white flowers.
