| Identification | This striking species has stems that typically grow 1.5-2.5 feet tall, with a single terminal head (or rarely up to 4) that has yellow rays and disks; the heads reach about 2 inches across. It is similar to a few species of Helenium, but those bloom in spring only. Very similar to Purple Honeycomb-head (B. atropurpurea), but that species has red-purple disks and inhabits wetter sites. | |
