DistributionScattered in the Coastal Plain and lower Piedmont (Moore County); disjunct to Swain County in the Mountains.

Native to the Old World tropics; in N.A. north to NC, KY, MO.
AbundanceUncommon to rare, but likely overlooked.
HabitatDry sandy to clayey soils of roadsides, narrow powerlines, woodland clearings, river shores, openings in swamps.
PhenologyFlowering and fruiting August-October.
IdentificationThe slender inflorescence branches resemble those of D. filiformis and D. villosa, but each rachis is winged and flattened (vs. non-winged and triangular in cross-section in those two species).
