DistributionAcross the state, with gaps that are likely to be filled over time.

Native of the Old World tropics; In N.A. mostly in the southern states, north to NJ, MA, and WA.
AbundanceFrequent in the Piedmont and Coastal Plain; uncommon to rare in the Mountains.
HabitatMoist to wet soils of lakes, impoundments, temporary pools, marshes, ditches, meadows, roadsides, powerlines, weed between greenhouses.
PhenologyFlowering and fruiting August-November.
IdentificationJungle-rice differs from our other Echinochloa by the combination of its short panicle branches, often widely spaced branches, and lack of awns.
