DistributionA single collection known for NC: Orange County, weed in newly seeded roadbank, UNC campus, Chapel Hill, 1 May 1963, Ahles 57904 (NCU). Assuming that this occurrence actually is of a "weed" and not part of the seed mix, we accept this record.

Native of Eurasia; in N.A. in the western states and B.C., scattered records east of TX.
AbundanceVery rare and likely extirpated.
HabitatNewly seeded roadbank.
PhenologyFlowering and fruiting April-June.
IdentificationMouse Barley is a shorter plant than Foxtail Barley, and with shorter awns. Its glumes are 11-25 mm long (vs. 25-85 mm long in Foxtail Barley).
