DistributionMore or less throughout, though scarce in the northern portions of the Coastal Plain and infrequent in the Mountains.

Native of Europe and North Africa; in N.A. mostly the midwestern and eastern states.
AbundanceFairly common in the Piedmont, uncommon elsewhere.
HabitatWeed in crop fields, roadsides, fence rows, other disturbed sites. NCNDOT has numerous plantings of this species along interstate medians and roadsides; such populations are not included here.
PhenologyFlowering late May - early July.
IdentificationUnlike our native larkspurs, this one has leaves that are finely dissected into threadlike segments. Its flowers are usually blue, but can be white or pink.
