DistributionMostly in the Coastal Plain, Sandhills, and lower Piedmont; disjunct to the southern Mountains. First collected in 1924 in Raleigh, Wake County.

Native of South America (probably); in N.A. MA and PA south to FL and TX; also CA.
AbundanceFrequent to locally common in the Coastal Plain and Sandhills; rare in the Piedmont and Mountains.
HabitatRoadsides, fallow fields, yard weed, campus weed, ranch, maritime sand flats, waste areas, vacant lots.
PhenologyFlowering and fruiting March-July.
IdentificationPennsylvania Everlasting is light glaucous green all over but with an abundance of gray silky or cobwebby hairs. The leaves and bracts below the heads are oblanceolate or spatulate (contra linear in G. antillana and G. calviceps).
Taxonomic CommentsThis is one of many taxa that were formerly included within Gnaphalium purpureum.
