DistributionForming a triangle from Pender County on the southeast to Durham and Mecklenburg counties on the north and west. Specimens from Guilford, Jackson, and Orange counties are of cultivated plants.

Native of Asia; in N.A. CT to GA and LA; Ont.; NE, KS.
AbundanceRare, but increasing -- as there are a handful of iNaturalist photos in the 2020s in the state.
HabitatSome records are of plants persisting long after homes have disappeared; also roadsides, along walking path.
PhenologyFlowering March-May.
IdentificationThis shrub has an abundance of wispy slender branches. The white flowers grow before the leaves emerge, and although small, these flowers grow abundantly along the branches in groups of 3-7. Soon after, broadly linear to elliptical leaves are produced.
