DistributionScattered in the Outer Coastal Plain and southern barrier islands; also Wayne County. First collected in 1954 in Brunswick County.

Native of South America; in N.A. NC to northern FL and southern AL.
AbundanceRare.
HabitatMaritime sands, dredge spoil island, clearcut, roadside, disturbed swamp border, disturbed pine savanna.
PhenologyFlowering and fruiting June-September.
IdentificationThis is our tallest everlasting, the stems regularly reaching 2-3 feet tall and occasionally to 3.5 feet. The leaves are strongly bicolored (darker green above than below), the basal ones usually withered by flowering time.
