Distribution | Mapped in NC by Weakley (2024) and said to "possibly" occur in the Carolinas, based on John Semple's goldenrod website. Semple and students have made their way through the genus Solidago and have provided detailed text, images, and maps for all taxa that they recognize. Keys may or may not be provided. Specimens examined are not cited. The maps do not show county outlines and therefore are only approximate. We will await more specific data before accepting this taxon as part of the NC flora. A specimen at BOON from Wake County, and not even from a limestone-based habitat, must surely be incorrect. Ditto for a specimen from Davidson County at NCU, from "upland woods". The editors are simply not sure enough about this confusing species to add these to the map and to say for sure that it ever has been documented from NC, especially as neither specimen label contains a reference to limestone or other mafic rocks/soil type.
"ON west to ND and WY, south to TN, LA, and TX; disjunct eastward in glade habitats to nw. GA (GANHP), TN (Chester, Wofford, & Kral 1997), KY, and possibly NC and SC" (Weakley 2024).
