DistributionThe only specimen at SERNEC reads "Nicollet Exped'n 1839" (one of 3 expeditions by Joseph Nicollet up the Missouri in the 1830s). The specimen is at herbarium NY. Thus, the specimen was not collected from NC. BONAP does not map it for NC. Weakley (2018) says reported from the NC portion of Great Smoky Mountains NP, "perhaps as a result of horticultural use and not seen recently."

Native to southcentral and southwestern Canada; MI to MT and south to TX and NM.
AbundanceIt may be best to regard this rose as State Reported Falsely.
