DistributionWidely scattered from the Mountains to the lowermost Piedmont. There are 4 collections: 1948 near Smokemont in Swain County; 1955 near Black Mountain in Buncombe County; 1970 north of Fishing Creek in Halifax County; and 2016 at Dunn's Mountain in Rowan County. A paper in Phytoneuron in 2020 by F. Levy provided a map of known specimens.

Native of KY-TN-AL.
AbundanceVery rare.
HabitatRoadside, top of roadcut, railroad margin near road.
PhenologyFlowering and fruiting July-October.
IdentificationThis plant is very similar to our other Heterotheca species, but it differs by its leaves that are cuneate (rather tapered) to the base as opposed to rounded or clasping at the base.
Taxonomic CommentsOur plants are var. glandulissima Semple.
