DistributionWeakley (2022) shows this variety as occurring in NC only in the Coastal Plain, where uncommon. Yet the specimens of this variety in the SERNEC database come mainly from Mountain counties. SERNEC lists records from Buncombe, Watauga, Rowan, Anson, Wake, and Johnston -- essentially all from the Mountains and Piedmont. Owing to this conflict of information, the editors are not populating the county map for now.
AbundancePoorly known. In late 2024, the NCNHP added the taxon to the Watch List, but with a rank of S2S4.
