DistributionVery recently discovered in NC in 2016 in Scotland County, specimens at NCSC and USCH. See the written journal account by Krings, Newton, and Liles (2017). In July 2022, collected at a vacant lot in Manteo, Dare County, by Eric Ungberg. Bryan England collected the species in Wake County in 2023.

Native of Costa Rica and Panama; in N.A. AL, FL, GA, NC.
AbundanceVery rare.
HabitatShady lawn, vacant lot.
PhenologyFlowering and fruiting -- no NC data.
IdentificationLike H. sibthorpioides, this species has small leaves, but they are not round. Instead, they are broadly ovate or reniform in outline, with 5-6 short, acute lobes, and a broad sinus at the base.
