DistributionScattered in 4 counties in the Piedmont and northern Mountains, as of 2020. First collected in NC in 2010 from Alleghany County. Specimens also exist for Caldwell, Guilford, Mecklenburg, New Hanover, Orange, Pitt, Randolph, Union, Wake, and Warren counties, and sight records from Moore County, but all are from cultivated trees.

Native of southeastern China and southeastern Asia.
Abundance
HabitatEscaped to yard and field by abandoned home (Alleghany Co.); forest near roadside (Gaston and Harnett Cos.); young plants and adults at abandoned home (Alamance Co.).
Phenology
IdentificationThe long and sharply pointed, flattened needles occur in 2 ranks along twigs. Its branches resemble those of Torreya taxifolia, but cones are very different.
