Distribution"A single tree of unknown provenance is at the Beech Gap Overlook (milepost 423.3, Transylvania County, NC) on the Blue Ridge Parkway (J.D. Pittillo, pers. comm., 2013)" (Weakley 2022). Weakley's map shows it as Uncertain Provenance; however, the website editors prefer to consider this as an escape/planted tree, far south of the known range limits in WV.

Canada and AK south to MD, WV, and BC; not known from VA.

Phenology
IdentificationA medium height deciduous conifer, growing to 40-80 feet tall. Its blue-green needles average barely 1-inch long, and the rounded cones are only 3/4-inch long.
