Distribution | Apparently statewide, based on map in Weakley (2023). However, populating a county range map is not possible at the present time, and until this entity is formally described.
"NB west to se. MB, south to GA, LA, and e. TX (Wyatt & Stoneburner 2022)".
Abundance | Weakley's map (2023) shows it as uncommon in NC and neighboring states, but this is likely just a wild guess.
Habitat | "Mesic forests, bottomlands" (Weakley 2023).
Phenology | Blooms in March and April.
Identification | This undescribed taxon has "Spathe hood underside purple with white stripes reaching just above the spadix, with the median stripe extending farther; spathe flange 2-6 mm broad; spadix cylindrical" (Weakley 2023); whereas the common A. triphyllum has "Spathe hood underside purple or green with white stripes reaching well above the spadix; spathe flange 5-10 mm broad; spadix clavate" (Weakley 2023). This undescribed taxon is diploid (2n = 28), whereas A. triphyllum is tetraploid (2n = 56).
Taxonomic Comments | This taxon was apparently "defined" in a 2022 paper, as different from other existing described members of Arisaema.

Other Common Name(s) | Common Jack-in-the-pulpit is given in Weakley (2023), but that is the identical common name he gives to A. triphyllum, and thus the website requires a different preferred common name. No obvious alternative name seems available to the editors, and thus we defer to the awkward "undescribed Jack-in-the-pulpit" for now.
