DistributionOne record for NC -- Becky Dill collected the species in Anson County in 2023 (NCU 448271).

This is a Southwestern U.S. species, found in AZ, NM, and TX into Mexico. There are a few records of exotics much farther to the east, including in SC.
AbundanceVery rare escape.
Habitat"Moist, weedy edge of gravel by railroad tracks" for the Anson County record.
PhenologyPlants were in bloom in September.
IdentificationThis small-flowered Ipomoea has scarlet, trumpet-shaped flowers as does I. coccinea. The leaves of this vine are quite variable and can be ovate and unlobed, to dissected with 3-5 finger-like lobes.
