AbundanceExtremely rare, one record.
HabitatAround a parking lot in Wilson.
PhenologyIn "bloom" in August.
IdentificationA tall herbaceous species growing to 4-5 feet tall. It has succulent leaves, and somewhat resembles the native American Burnweed (Erechtites hieraciifolia) in appearance and flower structure. The numerous heads, often nodding, contain no ray flowers, and the disk flowers are orange-red or scarlet in color.
Taxonomic CommentsOften placed in the genus Gynura.
