DistributionWeakley (2024) says that there is a record for Hoke County, but there is no collection listed in SERNEC.

"Sc. NC (Hoke County), e. SC (Horry and Hampton counties), s. GA, and Panhandle FL west to se. LA." (Weakley 2024)
AbundanceUnknown. The website editors have no idea if this is truly rare in NC, as few botanists are likely aware of this variety.
Habitat"Longleaf pine sandhill margins, xeric hammocks, streamheads, xeric river bluffs in the Fall-line Sandhills" (Weakley 2024).
PhenologyFlowers Nov-Dec, presumably, and fruits to Jan.
IdentificationFrom Weakley (2024): "Stellate trichomes of the leaves moderately dense to dense, averaging 0.09 mm across, with 7-11 rays; leaves (3.6-) avg. 6.4 (-10.3) cm long, (1.8-) avg. 4.1 (-6.2) cm wide; petals 7-15 mm long, 0.5-0.8 mm wide".
