Distribution | White Patrinia was discovered in NC on 5 Sept. 2024 by Tracy Feldman at Durant Nature Preserve in Raleigh. Although in the horticultural trade, this species had not been collected as an escape or an adventive anywhere in the U.S. or Canada prior to Feldman's discovery. Images can be seen at iNAT; and a specimen was collected.

Identification | Patrinia villosa grows from stoloniferous roots, forming patches or clumps of plants. Reproductive stems are erect, 2-3 feet tall. Leaves opposite, narrowly ovate, tapering to an acuminate tip; short tapered petioles are winged. Leaves usually have a pair of small leaflets where the petiole meets the stem. Leaf margins sharply toothed. Inflorescences terminate longish white stalks and form loose clusters (cymes) of small white flowers, very short-tubular and with 5 recurved petals. | |
Taxonomic Comments | A few sources place White Patrinia in the family Caprifoliaceae.
