DistributionCollected in 2005 near Thermal City in Rutherford County by James Padgett et al. (NCU 113083). A small population has been established on a roadside at Grandfather Mountain, Avery County, where photographed on iNaturalist by Will Bennett in June 2024. Likely has escaped elsewhere in the state.

Native of Europe. "Reported as naturalizing in se. TN along a roadcut" (Weakley 2024).
AbundanceVery rare, escaped at just a few sites so far.
HabitatThe NC populations were along a roadside/fence and a mowed roadside.
PhenologyPlants were in bloom in Avery County in late June. Blooms from June - September, fruiting soon after flowering.
IdentificationThis vine is separated from the common L. latifolius by "Stipules 2-3 mm wide; leaflets 6-15× as long as wide" versus "Stipules 4-10 mm wide; leaflets 2-5× as long as wide" in L. latifolius (Weakley 2024).
