Distribution | Recently a specimen at NCU was revealed to be this species: Haywood Co., roadside 4.5 miles S of Crabtree, 2 Apr 1958, Ahles & Duke 38773 (NCU). The specimen was annotated by Rob Naczi in 2013.

Abundance | Very rare, so far as is known. A single roadside collection from 1958. | |
Habitat | FNA says moist deciduous forests and edges, floodplains, along streams, usually in calcareous soils. | |
Phenology | Flowers in spring. | |
Identification | This species is much like C. procumbens, but the fruits are 5-7 mm long (vs. 7-10 mm long), fruit surface is smooth to pubescent (vs. smooth), the longest hairs on umbel rays are 0.1-0.4 (-0.8) mm (vs. 0.6-1.2 mm). | |
Taxonomic Comments | In RAB (1968) it is listed as C. procumbens var. shortii. Most recent references also use this (variety) as the taxon name.
