ME to ONT, S to NC, AL, LA, and OK. Native W of the Appalachians, eastern records probably all non-native.
AbundanceVery rare, if still extant.
HabitatRoadside, mountainside (Cedar Cliff Mtn. in Buncombe County).
PhenologyFlowers in late Apr-late June.
IdentificationFrom other members of the genus in NC, told by the +- dense pilose hairy stems and leaves; the crenate leaf margins with setae. See drawing on p. 274 in FNA (2021).
