DistributionSpecimens from Henderson Co. in 1969 (Leonard and Cooper 2379 many herbaria); Swain Co. in 1989; Jackson Co. in 2019. All Montane counties. Specimens from Buncombe, Caldwell, and Forsyth counties are from cultivated plants.

Native of China and Japan; in N.A. NH and NY to IL and MO, S to NC, AL, TX.
AbundanceApparently not well-established in NC, probably rare.
HabitatNear railroad, disturbed streamside, county greenway.
PhenologyFlowers April-May
IdentificationMost closely resembles E. umbellata, but flowers are single or paired vs. densely clustered; leaf blades smaller [1-2.5 (-5) cm vs. (2-) 3-8 (-10) cm long.
