Mountains and upper Piedmont, VA and KY, south to GA and LA.
AbundanceNo data.
HabitatMontane seepage slopes, fens, banks of brooks.
PhenologyFlowering and fruiting July-September.
IdentificationAccording to Cronquist (1980), this is a smaller variety than var. laciniata, reaching only 4 feet or so max (vs. 9 or 10) and leaves only 3-lobed (or unlobed) vs. 5-11 lobes.
Taxonomic CommentsNOTE: FNA lumps var. digitata into var. humilis, a montane taxon, whereas Weakley (2018) splits it out and says it is a Coastal Plain taxon. He apparently follows Cronquist (1980). We need enlightenment!
