DistributionSymphyotrichum kentuckiense is a replacement name for S. priceae. Older literature treated it as Aster pilosus var. priceae. There is a single specimen (2 sheets) from NC: Gaston County, E-facing slope along Crawford Road, SR 1108, ca. 2000 feet from junction with US 321. 18 Oct 1996, J.T. Soule et al s.n. (UNCC). Specimen annotated by Jim Matthews in 2012. In 2025 Eric Ungberg examined those specimens and declared them to be S. concinnum instead. Thus, S. kentuckiense is falsely reported in NC.

"C. KY south through c. TN to nw. GA and n. AL." (Weakley 2024a). The NC collection was thus an eastward disjunction, east of the Appalachians.
AbundanceFormerly thought to be very rare, a single NC collection; however, the specimens are now believed to be incorrectly identified and thus is now here ranked as SRF (Reported Falsely). This species is not in the NC NHP's Biotics database and thus is unranked.
HabitatTypical habitat is limestone glades.
PhenologyProbably in late summer and fall.
IdentificationThis is an aster with blue-violet rays, rarely white. See Weakley (2024a) for further details.
