DistributionScattered in the Mountains and Piedmont.

Native of China and Japan; scattered in the eastern states, mostly north of NC and SC.
AbundanceRare, but can occur in sizable patches.
HabitatWoodlands, typically in shady places.
PhenologyFlowers and fruits June-October.
IdentificationThis is an evergreen species with leaves similar to those of the native P. procumbens, except that in the exotic species the leaves are solid green and not mottled, and the leaves are narrower and more elliptical.
