Distribution | Vouchered from 3 counties in the Sandhills and adjacent upper Coastal Plain. First collected in 1965 from Weymouth Woods Sandhills Nature Preserve (Moore County).

Abundance | Rare. Extant at several locations in Moore County (especially just SW of the county airport), and at least one on Fort Bragg (Hoke County). | |
Habitat | Dry to xeric sandy soil of roadsides, margin of airport, margin of parachute drop zone, regenerating fields. | |

Identification | Sheep's-bit is an odd plant up to 1.5 feet tall and with many short, linear leaves. The flowers occur in hemispherical to globular heads averaging 1 inch wide, held high above the foliage. Each of the many flowers is blue to pale blue. At a distance, the inflorescence looks like a single composite flower, such as Stokesia laevis, Cyanus segetum, or Marshallia sp. | |
