Comments: One of 126 species in this genus that occur in North America (Lafontaine and Schmidt, 2010, 2011), the majority of which occur in the West; 25 have been recorded in North Carolina.

Habitats and Life History
Habitats:
Larval Host Plants: Larvae have been recorded on Carolina False-dandelion (Pyrrhopappus carolinianus) (Wagner et al., 2011). In North Carolina, there is a BugGuide record (Mike Hill, 2014) of a larva feeding on Pyrrhopappus. Mike Hill reports that he had found the larva in his yard after previously seeing adults (including a mating pair). - View

Natural Heritage Program Ranks: G4 SNR [SU]
State Protection: Has no legal protection, although permits are required to collect it on state parks and other public lands.
Comments: In the East, this species is primarily found in Florida and along the coast as far north as Maryland. The status of this species as a resident in North Carolina, however, has not been established; it could simply be a migrant in this area.
