Species Status: Described by Dyar (1908) based on seven specimens from Tryon, NC, reared from larvae fed on Ceanothus.

Identification

Adult Markings: This species was described by Dyar (1908) from Tryon, North Carolina from seven specimens that were reared from New Jersey Tea (Ceanothus americanus) and apparently has not been observed since then. He noted that the patterning most closely resembles that of Packardia elegans and that there dark and pale color forms. The following is based on Dyar’s original description. The overall color of the forewing is bright brownish ocherous. In the dark form the forewing is brownish ochreous and is crossed by two oblique and one reversed curved pale line. The inner line is broadly shaded on the outer margin with dark fuscous brown, while the curved line ends at the anal angle in two superposed dots. The hindwing is thickly blackish irrorate. In the pale form, the markings are nearly obliterated, being of almost the same shade as the ground color, and the hindwing is pale straw-color. Dyar (1908) noted that the larvae are similar to those of P. elegans.
Adult ID Requirements: Identifiable only by close inspection of structural features or by DNA analysis.
Immatures and Development: The larval life history is undocumented.
