Species Status: "There is still much confusion about the application of these names [melanogrammos and subcanalis]. I recognize each as a particular species but I haven't the actual types to confirm what name goes with what" (Scholtens, 2017). Forbes (1923) thought subcanalis was probably a form of asperatella.

Habitats and Life History
Habitats: Our only recent record comes from a barrier island. The rest are all historic and the habitat associations are not recorded.
Larval Host Plants: Larvae have been recorded on Hickories and Oaks (Robinson et al., 2010). A record from Texas submitted to BugGuide by George Smiley shows larvae found on Water Hickory. - View
