Adult Markings: According to Hulst's (1900) description of this species, the head and the anterior half of the thorax are yellow, as is the costa of the forewing. The posterior half of the thorax, the abdomen, and the ground color of the wings is reddish-violet. The forewings are crossed by three lines of pale yellow whose course is irregular and dentate to somewhat incomplete. An incomplete median line -- a bar located below the costa -- is also yellow, as is an incomplete adterminal line. The terminal line consists of a series of yellow spots and the fringe is dark purple. The hindwings are similar in color and markings and the undersides are a reddish-pink. Leptostales pannaria is similar, but has a paler violet ground color and either lacks the yellow on the head, thorax, and costa, or is more heavily dusted with violet.
Wingspan: 16 mm (Hulst, 1900)
