Natural Heritage Program Status:
Natural Heritage Program Ranks: G5 S2S3
State Protection: Has no legal protection, although permits are required to collect it on state parks and other public lands.
Comments: Although this species has been recorded in North Carolina from the mountains to the Outer Coastal Plain and is associated with common host plants, it nonetheless appears to be very uncommon. It has been regularly recorded only at a single site in Madison County, which suggests that it comes well to lights. Given the large number of moth surveys that have now been conducted in habitats apparently suitable for this species, there is little to no data to suggest that it is secure in the state, ruling out state ranks of S4 or S5.
