Comments: A Holarctic genus of about 140 species, with 63 recorded in North America, mostly from boreal or montane habitats (Mikkola et al., 2009). Seventeen species occur in North Carolina with the majority of records coming from the mountains.

Habitats and Life History
Habitats: Our records come primarily from elevations of over 4000'. Habitats include Spruce-fir Forest, mountain bogs, and high elevation, semi-natural grasslands
Larval Host Plants: Larval host plants appear to be unknown, but a host plant used by the closely related western species, A. atriclava, is Quackgrass (Elymus repens) (Mikkola et al., 2009). - View
