Habitats and Life History
Habitats: Our records come almost entirely from rich, wet-mesic hardwood forests. These include cove forests and high elevation hardwooods in the mountains, brownwater river floodplains in the Coastal Plain, and mesic stands of hardwoods in the Piedmont.
Larval Host Plants: Larvae feed on primarily on hickories and walnuts (Wagner et al., 2011). Other reported hosts include American Hornbeam (Carpinus caroliniana), American Hop-hornbeam (Ostrya virginiana), beech, and ash (Heppner, 2007; Beadle & Leckie, 2012). We do not have any feeding records in North Carolina. - View
