Taxonomy
Family:
Tetrigidae
Subfamily:
Tetriginae
Tribe:
Species Status:
Tetrix
is one of four genera in the subfamily Tetriginae. Members of this group have fewer than 15 segments; the middle femurs are laterally compressed and carinate dorsally; and the front edge of the pronotum is usually truncate except in
Nomotettix
, where it is angulate and projecting forward (Hancock, 1902; Blatchley, 1920). In genus
Tetrix
, the median carina of the pronotum is low rather than strongly arched and its front margin is truncate or obtuse-angulate. The hind margin of the lateral lobes of the pronotum are strongly bisinuate (Blatchley, 1920).

Comments:
The color and patterning of this species is highly variable (see illustration in Blatchley, 1920). The pronotum is often marked with two to four dark brown spots and there is sometimes a large white patch located in front of these spots. One or two white blotches may be present on the outer face of the hind femurs (Blatchley, 1920).
Structural Features:
The anterior margin of the fastigium is rounded with a short median projection. The median carina of the pronotum is not strongly elevated or compressed. The surface of the pronotum is finely granulate, becoming more strongly rugose towards the posterior. Both short and long winged forms occur (Blatchley, 1920).
